How to Position Indoor LED Step Lights
The position at which you place your interior recessed stair lights matters. Placement of the lighting is crucial for providing the perfect blend of visual harmony and safety.
One of the ways to position your interior stair lights is to fit them into the risers of the stairs themselves. By recessing them into the vertical face, you will prevent any protruding fixtures from causing tripping hazards.
Directional stairwell lighting placed in the risers will shine light down onto each stair to offer illumination and a clean look. Centre the fixture about 75 to 100 millimetres above the tread and use one light per riser for uniformity. Wide beam angles work best here.
You can also LED step lights in or on the wall on the side of the stairs. Positioning them adjacent to the stairs shines a pool of light down onto them from the side instead of from the front.
Align the bottom of the interior LED stair lights with the top edge of the tread, aiming for around 150 to 200 millimetres up from the step itself. One light for every two to three steps is generally considered sufficient.
